How to Choose the Right TV Cart or Mobile Trolley

A cart has to do three things well: carry the screen safely, put it at the right height for the room, and move without a fight. Work through screen size and weight first, then decide how the height is adjusted and what else has to travel with the display - a camera, a player, a laptop or a locked cabinet.

1. Match the Cart to Your Screen Size and Weight

Every cart lists a screen size range and a maximum load, and both matter. A 65" commercial panel is usually 25kg to 35kg, an 86" interactive display can be 70kg or more, and screens beyond 100" push past 100kg. Check the weight in your display's specifications and pick a cart rated above it. Size range matters too - a panel wider than the cart's frame will overhang the base and make it unstable.

2. Check the VESA Pattern

VESA is the pattern of threaded holes on the back of the display, measured between hole centres. Carts in this range cover 600 x 400mm for typical TVs up to about 70", 800 x 600mm and 1000 x 600mm for larger commercial panels, and 1200 x 800mm on the super heavy duty model. Measure yours before ordering - a large screen with a wide pattern will not fit a small cart bracket even if the weight is within range.

3. Manual, Counterbalance or Motorised Height Adjustment

Manual carts are set once with bolts or a pin and left there - the most affordable option when the screen stays at one height. Counterbalance carts move through roughly 400mm with one hand and no power, which suits interactive panels that get adjusted for each group. Motorised carts run on a remote, app or control panel across a range of 650mm to 740mm and are the practical choice for heavy screens, accessibility, or rooms where the height changes several times a day.

4. Landscape, Portrait or Rotating

Most carts hold the screen in landscape. If you run digital signage, social feeds or portrait presentations, look for a rotating model that turns 90° without tools. Carts built for interactive displays also add a few degrees of upward tilt, which makes a big difference to comfort when people are writing on the screen rather than watching it.

5. What Else Travels with the Screen

Think about the equipment as well as the display. Shelves hold a media player, laptop or switcher; camera mounts on the top section position a conferencing camera at eye level; lockable cabinets keep remotes, dongles and laptops secure in shared or public spaces; and full cable management stops leads catching on castors while the cart is moving.

6. Wheels, Floors and Stability

Larger castors roll more easily over carpet joins, door thresholds and cable covers, and shock absorbing wheels protect a heavy screen from jolts in transit. Always lock the castors once the cart is in place, especially with big panels. Check the base footprint against the doorways and lift you need to pass through, and keep the screen low while moving to keep the centre of gravity down.

7. When a Cart Is Not the Answer

If the display never actually needs to move, a wall mount or ceiling mount is cheaper, tidier and takes up no floor space. A freestanding floor mount sits in between - no wheels, but no fixing to the building either, so it can be repositioned occasionally and bolted down later if the location becomes permanent.
