Mini Projector

Mini Projector
Mini projectors prioritise compact size and portability, making them suitable for casual use in controlled lighting environments.
Most models are palm-sized, typically weighing around 300-600g. Due to their size, brightness is usually limited (around 100-300 lumens), so they perform best in dark rooms and smaller viewing setups.
Where Mini Projectors Work Best
- Dark rooms or night-time use
- Small groups (around 1-6 people)
- Temporary setups or travel
- Casual viewing on smaller screen sizes (up to ~80"-90")
They are not designed for bright rooms or large spaces, where higher brightness projectors are more suitable.
Battery & Power
Most mini projectors include a built-in battery, typically providing around 1.5 to 2.5 hours of playback, which is enough for a full movie or short presentation.
Some models can also be powered using a USB-C power bank with Power Delivery (PD). When paired with a larger capacity power bank (e.g. 20,000mAh), runtime can be extended to approximately 6 to 8 hours depending on brightness settings and power consumption.
Performance Considerations
Mini projectors are built for convenience rather than performance. Lower brightness, smaller speakers, and limited processing power are common trade-offs.
Based on our testing, very low-cost mini projectors (commonly in the $50-$100 range) often struggle with basic streaming use. In many cases, they may not reliably run external devices such as streaming sticks, or may freeze when attempting to load video content.
This is typically due to the limited processing hardware inside these units, which can affect video playback, app performance, and overall usability.
For more consistent performance, it is recommended to choose models with better processing capability and proper support for external streaming devices.
Streaming & Connectivity
Some mini projectors include built-in apps or wireless features, but performance can vary depending on the hardware.
Many users prefer connecting a dedicated streaming device via HDMI for more reliable playback and broader app compatibility.
Wireless screen mirroring is also available on some models, which can be useful for presentations or sharing content from a phone or laptop.
Choosing the Right Mini Projector
If portability is your main priority, a mini projector can be a suitable option for occasional use in dark environments.
For brighter rooms, larger screen sizes, or more frequent use, a portable or full-size projector may provide a more consistent viewing experience.
