How to Choose the Right Projector Mount

Find the right projector mount for your home, office, classroom or large venue. Our range of projector ceiling and wall mounts is designed to provide secure installation, easy adjustment and long-lasting support for a variety of projectors – the right choice comes down to your ceiling height, projector weight and the throw distance you need to hit your screen.

1. Measure Your Ceiling Height & Drop Distance

Standard residential ceilings are typically 2.4m to 2.7m high, while commercial offices, halls and auditoriums often range from 2.7m to 3.6m or more. The drop distance is the gap between the ceiling plate and the projector itself – it needs to be long enough to clear light fittings and bulkheads, but short enough to keep the projector at the correct height for your screen and throw ratio. Fixed drop mounts suit a known, standard ceiling height, while adjustable/telescopic mounts let you fine-tune the exact height on site.

2. Check Your Projector’s Weight & Bracket Fit

Every mount is rated to a maximum weight, so check your projector’s weight (including any lens or bracket accessories) against the mount’s capacity before buying. Smaller universal mounts suit most home and office projectors up to around 15–20kg, while heavy-duty mounts are built for large venue and laser projectors up to 45kg. Universal brackets adjust to fit most VESA-style projector feet, but always check the projector base dimensions against the bracket’s adjustment range first.

3. Ceiling Mount, Wall Mount or Motorised Lift?

A ceiling mount is the most common choice and gives the cleanest throw for most rooms. A wall mount suits rooms where ceiling access isn’t possible, or short/ultra short throw projectors that need to sit close behind the screen. A motorised projector lift conceals the projector in the ceiling when it’s not in use – ideal for boardrooms and premium home theatres where a clean ceiling line matters.

4. Fixed Drop or Adjustable Drop?

Fixed drop mounts are simpler, more affordable and suit installations where the ceiling height and required drop are already known. Adjustable, telescopic mounts cost a little more but let you extend or retract the pole on site to hit the exact height needed – useful for raked ceilings, bulkheads, or when the exact throw distance is still being finalised.

5. Confirm Throw Distance & Screen Position

Before installing, use your projector’s throw ratio to work out how far it needs to sit from the screen for the image size you want. Mounting position affects both the horizontal throw distance and the vertical offset needed to centre the image on the screen – our Projection Calculator can help confirm the right distance for your projector and screen size.

6. Mounting Surface & Installation

Check what you’re fixing into – timber joist, concrete slab or plasterboard with noggings – as this determines the fixings required and whether professional installation is recommended. Heavy-duty mounts and motorised lifts, in particular, should be installed by a qualified installer and fixed to a structural point, not plasterboard alone.

Benefits of Using a Projector Mount

  • Secure installation – keeps your projector safe and stable
  • Improved image alignment – adjust easily for the perfect picture
  • Space saving – keep desks and floors clutter-free
  • Professional look – ideal for both home cinema and business use
  • Concealed cabling – tidy runs from ceiling to projector
  • Theft & tamper resistance – harder to knock or remove than a shelf
