How to Choose the Right Projector

1) Room Brightness & Lumens

Bright rooms and larger screens need more light. For lounge rooms with ambient light, target 3,000–4,000+ ANSI lumens. Dedicated dark theatres can use lower-lumen models with higher contrast.

2) Throw Distance & Screen Size

Match your throw distance to screen width. Short-throw and UST models suit tight spaces; standard-throw models offer flexible placement. Measure carefully before you buy—especially for interchangeable lenses.

3) Resolution & Usage

4K (UHD) is best for films and sports; 1080p suits presentations and classrooms. For gaming, look for low input lag and high refresh support.

4) Light Source

Laser and LED promise long life and low maintenance; lamp models can offer strong value if you’re budget-conscious.

5) Screen & Installation

Pair UST projectors with UST-compatible ALR screens to avoid hotspotting. We can help specify the right screen gain and size for your room.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many lumens do I need for my room?

For dim or dark rooms, 2,000–3,000 ANSI lumens often suffice. For bright living rooms or meeting spaces with ambient light, 5,000–6,000+ lumens deliver clearer images. Larger screens and higher ambient light require more lumens.

What’s the difference between short-throw and ultra-short-throw projectors?

Short-throw (≈0.4–1.0:1) projects a large image from a short distance and suits tight rooms or gaming. Ultra-short-throw (≈0.1–0.3:1) sits very close to the wall/screen and is ideal where ceiling mounting isn’t possible.

Do I need a special screen?

A dedicated screen improves brightness, contrast, and colour. For UST models, use a compatible ALR UST screen to avoid hotspotting and maintain uniformity. We can recommend the right screen for your setup.
